This article was a part of a teacher's website. Kasey Bell from Dallas, Texas is challenging teachers to "Shake Up Learning" and share their voices. It doesn't have to be technology based; she encourages each person to share their personal strengths and work to build on their passions. I enjoyed reading about this drive towards personal initiative. I also explored Kasey's twitter page. (@ShakeUpLearning).
I really appreciate this kind of thinking. Personally, I have many interests and passions and would love to share them in my classroom. As a social studies teacher, I would incorporate music, art, theater, food, culture, and exercise into my lessons. It would be beneficial to my students to learn the material in ways and methods that help them really "learn" about the time period or event in history. As a teacher, I am more interested in my students' ability to recognize an event's significance than their memorization of facts.
